What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a safe exfoliation technique. The fine vellus hair, also known as “peach fuzz,” is removed during the process.
How is it done?
Your esthetician is trained and certified to perform this safe exfoliation technique by using a scalpel to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells on your face. It is quick, painless, and effective at removing dead skin cells and vellus hair.
How does this affect the hair on my face?
Fine hair is removed, leaving a youthful and vibrant complexion. This popular procedure does not change the histology of the hair. Hair will not grow back darker or thicker.
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
How often do I need to get dermaplaning?
The average dermaplaning is performed every 4 to 6 weeks. Once you’ve received your first treatment you will become aware of when you feel the next treatment is necessary.
Is dermaplaning painful?
No, it’s pain free.
What is the downtime after dermaplaning?
There is no downtime. Some individuals may experience slight redness which quickly subsides. It is recommended to avoid sun, sweating, and heat for 24 hours, just like any other professional exfoliation treatment.
Is dermaplaning safe if you are pregnant?
Dermaplaning is safe if you are pregnant.
Is dermaplaning safe for all skin types?
Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types. There is no restriction on skin tone. We will not perform dermaplaning over active acne or inflamed sensitive skin. We highly recommend the JetPeel for acneic skin, and the Oxygen Facial for sensitive skin. We do not recommend dermaplaning for those with rosacea or keratosis pilaris (clinical name for the rough bumps commonly found on the backs of your arms).
Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?
No, dermaplaning is not the same as shaving your face. Though they are similar, dermaplaning delivers exfoliation along with hair removal.
Dermaplaning vs Dermabrasion: What is the difference?
Dermaplaning and dermabrasion are both excellent exfoliation techniques, but very different. Dermaplaning uses a scalpel to remove dead skin and the vellus hair (aka “peach fuzz”). Dermabrasion uses diamond tips and suction to physically exfoliate the dead skin off your face, but does not remove hair. This is a deeper exfoliation. Be sure to try our SilkPeel Dermalinfusion!
Are there any risks with dermaplaning?
As with any exfoliation treatment, there are always risks for irritation. Sunblock must be worn 24/7 post treatment, as with any exfoliation technique. This technique must be performed by a licensed, trained and certified individual. Always ask to see their license and certification!
Does dermaplaning cause breakouts?
You definitely should never get dermaplaning performed with active breakouts. Dermaplaning shouldn’t cause any breakouts. This depends on your homecare, proper cleansing and finishing products. This, also, depends on your makeup choices. We highly recommend GloProfessional Makeup. Dermaplaning removes the buildup of dead skin and excess oil from the surface, and may actually help prevent future breakouts. Once again, homecare is essential in preventing breakouts. We offer homecare recommendations and samples for you to try prior to purchase.
Is dermaplaning a traditional facial?
Our dermaplaning facials are not a traditional facial experience, whereas there is not a facial massage. If you are looking for a traditional spa experience, please refer to our Signature Facial which includes a customized facial along with massage of the face, neck, shoulders, arms and hands.
